Federal Judge Rules Against DOMA

In a ruling that only applies to Massachusetts but is nonetheless reverberating across the country, a federal judge has declared that important aspects of DOMA, the Defense of Marriage Act passed in 1996, are unconstitutional.  The decision was quickly criticized by Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of Louisville, chairman of the U.S. bishops’ Ad Hoc Committee for the Defense of Marriage.
