New York Approves Same-Sex Marriage Law

New York became the the sixth and largest state in the country to legalize gay marriage, and the third to do so through legislation rather than a court decision.  In a statement, the state’s Catholic bishops decried the Legislature’s decision, saying “Our society must regain what it appears to have lost – a true understanding of the meaning and the place of marriage, as revealed by God, grounded in nature, and respected by America’s foundational principles.”
