A federal judge has temporarily blocked newly signed legislation that would prevent Planned Parenthood — the nation’s largest abortion provider — from receiving taxpayer funds earmarked for family planning purposes. Kansas’ attorney general has announced that he will appeal the ruling.
This action comes on the heels of another federal judge’s order that implementation of Kansas’ new clinic licensing regulations be halted. It is believed that the ruling will only affect the temporary regulations that were put in place quickly to comply with the requirements of the new law, and not the final version of the regulations to be implemented at a later date.
